eCOI vs. genetic diversity

Why do some male dogs evaluated by RI have a gCOI of 14% and zero genetic diversity, while others have an eCOI of 34% and a score of 4, indicating high genetic diversity?

Stephanie Müller

The gCOI (genetic coefficient of inbreeding) is calculated using our 710,000 marker chip and allows for an accurate calculation of inbreeding. Dogs that have undergone the R.I.GE.P. test also receive the gCOI value. The genetic diversity in the immune system is a completely different value and is evaluated with a score of 0-4 (according to the old method), where 4 = high genetic diversity in the immune system and 0 = no genetic diversity in the immune system. For example, a dog with very high inbreeding can still have a highly diverse immune system. These two aspects are not necessarily linked. The genetic diversity in the immune system is now listed even more precisely on the R.I.GE.P. test certificate.

Regarding the eCOI, this is the expected average genetic coefficient of inbreeding for a litter. Once you perform a test mating in the database and both parents have a R.I.GE.P. test, the eCOI will be calculated within 1 minute. Each puppy has its own individual coefficient of inbreeding, which differs from its siblings. The eCOI represents the average coefficient of inbreeding for the litter.

I hope this helps you. I’m attaching a screenshot to this message.
